Feel First Relationship
Archetype Assessment
You already have a relationship style. This helps you see it. Take the Self-Assessment!
You don’t choose how you respond when someone goes quiet on you. You don’t decide to pull back when a relationship starts to feel too close, or to push forward when you feel someone slipping away.
Those moves happen fast, and they’ve been happening for a long time. The Feel First Relationship Archetype Assessment helps you recognize the pattern you’re already running.
This isn’t a personality test. It won’t tell you who you are as a person. It shows you how your emotional system moves in a relationship, where it reaches, where it hesitates, and what tends to get in the way when you want to connect but can’t quite close the distance.
It takes about ten minutes.
What the assessment shows you
The Feel First framework describes eight relational archetypes. Each one is a recognizable way of moving through relationships — a characteristic style of seeking closeness, registering threat, and giving and receiving care.
The Puppy reaches toward people with warmth and enthusiasm. Connection feels most alive when there’s shared delight in the room.
The Cat goes deep rather than wide. Needs space to feel safe, and once trust is established, loves with real intensity.
The Sheepdog orients toward the needs of the people it loves. It often carries more emotional weight in a relationship than anyone notices, including the relationship itself.
The Hawk leads with clarity and focus. It can struggle when a relationship asks it to slow down and stay in a moment without resolving it.
The Horse is steady and loyal. It will give a great deal to keep a bond intact, sometimes more than it can afford.
The Sea Turtle moves at its own pace. It needs time to process, and it often understands more than it’s ready to say out loud.
The Hummingbird brings energy and aliveness into every interaction. It can lose track of its own needs in the motion of everything else.
The Hedgehog protects carefully and loves deeply. Trust is the hardest thing to build, and also the most necessary.
Your archetype is not a fixed category. It’s a description of where your emotional energy tends to go, what your relational fears tend to be, and what kind of connection your system is actually wired for.
How This Helps You
When you know your archetype, you start to see your patterns rather than just acting them out. You get clearer on what you actually need in a relationship, not what you think you should need, but what your emotional system keeps asking for.
The Drop, and why it matters
The Drop is a fast, automatic shift your emotional system sends the moment it registers that something in a relationship just changed. It happens before a single conscious thought. Your behavior reorganizes around it, and most of the time, it goes completely unexamined. Knowing your archetype means knowing how the Drop moves through your system and what you tend to do next.
